E-MAIL QUESTIONS ANSWERED
DAVID L. ODOM
>I have given up on God because of what
has happened to my son. What area of the bible >should I study to help me
overcome this
Thank you for reaching out for Truth. I can
understand to some extent, how you feel inside for what has happened to your
son. We want to blame someone. We tend to blame the Creator because we feel
that if something bad happens, since God has the power to stop bad things from
happening, then we think, why didn't He stop what happened to my loved one?
From my study of God's Word, I don't believe God causes the bad things to happen
in life. I first suggest that you read the book of Job, in the Old Testament.
There you will find that there are two forces involved in this universe, God
and satan, which represent good and evil. The devil is referred to as the 'god
of this world' in II Corinthians 4:4.
I can't answer all the questions mankind has
about God, the devil, good, and evil, I can only deal with what I find written
in the Inspired Word of God, but I do believe one thing very strongly, and that
is, that all of the things the inspired Word of God tells us about the Creator,
He is not evil, nor does He cause bad things to happen to us and our loved
ones.
The book of Psalms has many passages that show us the attributes of the Creator.
That He is a wonderful, holy, trustful, compassionate, loving, long-suffering
God, and He doesn't take any pleasure in our sufferings here upon this earth.
I would encourage you to first try to get out of your heart the belief that God
is responsible for what happened to your son. As you study your Bible you will
find that it is 'sin' that introduced all of the negative things into man's
existence upon this earth. Genesis 3:16-19. This includes anything that can
harm mankind.
You might say, yes, but God allows it all to happen. True, but, as the book of
Job shows, there are other forces at work, which God is not involved in, although
He allows those things to happen. This involves 'freewill' that He has given
man. The Creator wants 'freewill' beings to worship Him, not robots. So,
because of 'freewill', there are negative choices to be made, with negative
results. Also, all of the dangerous things that can hurt us
as storms, illness, evil acts from other people, all kinds of accidents, etc.,
all of these things began from what happened in Genesis chapter 3 when Eve and
Adam sinned against their Creator.
I hope and pray these thoughts and Scripture studies will help you. Please feel
free to ask me any questions you might think of. I will try my best to help you
find the truth, so that you will not blame your wonderful Creator for the bad
things that happen here upon this earth.
